Bind failed on TCP port 1433

here's what I just found...
We got the "SuperSocket Info: Bind failed on TCP port 1433" error, yet
netstat says the socket _is_ listening. TCPView (from the excellent
sysinternals site) confirms that it's listening, and that it's SQL
server that doing it.
Stumped despite much googling, I suddenly realised we'd recently
installed a new remote access _client_ on this server, Windows Secure
Application Manager from netscreen. This seems to work by hooking the
TCP stack with an LSP. Needless to say, it was this that was messing
up SQL server - using the diagnostics tool to remove the LSP sorted it
out straight away.
Thinking back, I've seen problems with an LSP before: some weird
problem with Norton Antivirus left a machine in a state where ipconfig
said it was dialled up OK, it could ping, but it couldn't do email or
http... Zapping the LSP sorted it (not that I can remember how I
removed it!)

Bind failed on TCP port 1433

I installed SP3a and now I am getting this error message in the application
event log. Also, I can only connect to my server using namepipes. But
TCP/IP won't connect, even using 127.0.0.1 or the IP of my machine. The
event logs says that SQL is listening on 127.0.0.1:1433.
Can someone please help. I have not seen the answer and I have been
searching for 2 days now.
Log:
SQL server listening on 127.0.0.1: 1433.
SuperSocket Info: Bind failed on TCP port 1433.
SuperSocket info: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355.

There are two scenarios that I can think of that will cause this situation.
1) You have bounced the SQL Server service programmatically (probably in
C++) and the service has been stopped and restarted too quickly. SQL
Server does not release the port quickly enough before it is restarted
and thinks that another service is using port 1433. The bind, then fails.
2) Another application is using port 1433.
You can check your ports using this on the commandline:
netstat -a
Look at the local address column for <machinename>:ms-sql-s or
<machinename>:1433
On my Inspiron laptop I get these results:

>|||Thanks for trying to help. Sadly, it can not be either case. I am not
doing anything with C++ and I have not downloaded any application lately that
is build on it. Esp. working with SQL server. I looked at the ports with
netstat -an and I see the port being listened by SQL Server. The server just
wont bind to that port. If I can't find a solution soon, I will be left to
do a re-install. :(

BIDS problem

I just installed the RTM of the standard version of SQL Server 2005 Client Tools on a Windows XP machine.

When I initially opened the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, I received about 6 pop-up messages saying that it couldn't load a package (I didn't copy the message and can't get it to repeat now).

When I try to create an Analysis Services package, I now get the message:
"Could not load type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.IVsHasRelatedSaveItems' from assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

I believe this is some sort of setup issue, but am not sure how to troubleshoot or fix this.

BIDS doesn't install correctly...

hi, (this is also posted on the vstudio.general group)
i installed the SQL 2005 toolkit so i could design reports in VS 2005, with
the Business Intelligence project templates.
my VS 2005 professional is installed into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual
Studio 2005\, i can't remember if this was the default directory or not, i
suspect it is not because of some "assembly not found" errors when i attempt
to run the so-called "Business Intelligence Development Studio" (which
installed with a broken short-cut after installation). i fixed the broken
shortcut to point to the visual studio 2005 devenv.exe.
i then try to create a new BI project and get a message
"Could not load file or assembly Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer
Version=9.0.242.0"
another user also encountered this problem and posted it here:

i searched for the Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer file and it is
located in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies
i copy it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio
2005\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies
and then restart VS and lo and behold i get a different error message for
the next file that is missing. so i try copying the entire
PrivateAssemblies folder in to the 2005 directory and now i get "object
reference not set to instance of an object". ok so i'm chancing my arm
copying files around like this, but can anyone make sense of the MESS that
is BIDS? i have repaired both my VS 2005 installation and all SQL 2005
related software, to no avail.
i would suspect that re-installing VS into the vs 8 directory (not the 2005
directory) would solve the problem but i would hate to waste all that time
uninstalling and reinstalling VS just because BIDS has a big installation
bug.

after i copied the PrivateAssemblies folder on top of my vS 2005 folder, it
got a bit worse (understandably) so i decided to do a repair. now the BI
projects work fine.
i'm still convinced there is a bug in BIDS integration with existing VS 2005
installations.

BI Development Studio not showing "create new project" on file menu

I just installed Reporting Services 2005 but when I start up SQL
Server Business Intelligence Development Studio I'm stuck. I don't
even have "create new project" as an option on my file menu, instead I
have "create team project" or "create file".
I previously had Visual Studio with Team Foundation Server on my
machine, but I only used it to log bugs. When I installed SS2005 and
reporting services I actually uninstalled the copy of Visual Studio I
had on my machine but that hasn't helped.
I don't want to create a teams project (and I don't haver permissions
anyway), I just want to use reporting services but it seems stuck in
some TFS mode. I'd take out the TFS part if I could figure out how
to.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.Try to uninstall the TFS and reinstall visual studio 2005

BI Development Studio Licensing in SQL Server 2005

Can someone clarify the above for me? Specifically, do you need VS
2005 installed and/or a license or is the Development Studio covered
under the SQL Server 2005 licence in it's entirety?

Paul2005 ships with everything you need to develop reports. Unlike 2000 where
you had to have VS 2003. If you have VS 2005 it will integrate with it
(essentially they are shipping a special version of VS with RS 2005).

the 2005 Business Intelligence Development Studio is incompatible with
MS Report Services Server 2000?|||It will convert 2000 reports to 2005 formats but you cannot use 2000 server
with 2005. You can upgrade RS 2000 to RS 2005 without upgrading SQL Server
to 2005. This means that the database engine can still be 2000 and when you
upgrade RS 2000 to 2005 the object/metadata store gets updated. You still
need a 2005 license.

BI Dev Studio won't install with June CTP reinstallation

I am attempting to install the BI Development Studio, from the SQL Server 2005 June CTP, on an XP machine. It installed successfully the first time I installed it, along with all other Workstation Components and BOL.

Subsequently I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Workstation Components, but the installation process does not fully install BI Development Studio. It creates the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE directory (where devenv.exe should be located), but this directory is empty other than the PrivateAssemblies and profiles subdirectories. After an installation , the Start Programs menu contains an option for “SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio” under "MS SQL Server 2005 CTP", but this shortcut points to the non-existent C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe

There are no installation errors, and everything else seems to install OK, but BI Dev Studio is simply not there..

I have used both Add/Remove Programs, and the Build Uninstall Wizard, to remove the installation before trying the reinstalls.

This machine also has Visual Studio 2003 and a SQL Server 2000 instance, but they were already in place prior to my first successful installation.

This is not a very satisfying answer, but here's how we fixed it.

After running the Build Uninstall Wizard once again, we manually removed all folders and all files throughout the hard drive related to SQL Server 2005 (i.e. 9) and Visual Studio 2005 (i.e. 8). Also all registry entries. After manually removing all of this, the installation worked successfully.

Bottom line: the Build Uninstall Wizard fails to remove quite a few files and registry settings on your machine, some of which prevented the successful reinstall of the BI Dev Studio.

BI Dev Studio I see no DATAFLOW DESTINATIONS in the toolbox

I just installed sql2005 and bi dev studio on a vista box. Then VS 2005 and all svc packs.
I create a new SSIS package but don't see any Data Flow Destinations in the toolbox while on the dataflow tab. I choose "show all" and don't see any data flow destinations anywhere.
I can use the wizard to create packages, and it adds destinations just fine.
Anyone have any idea what may be wrong?

A few things to try:

1. Run devenv.exe /setup

2. Refresh toolbox

3. Choose toolbox items

Beta Data Conversion

I have a data file in Beta 2 version, but now I've already uninstalled the
beta version and installed a new Release Version of SQLServer 2005. Does
anybody know how to convert the data file to be usable in SQLServer 2005?Jeffry
Are you talking about .MDF datafile? If you are , have you tried to attach
the file? There are two system stored procedures as sp_detach_db,
sp_attach_db

Beta Data Conversion

Best way to synch data without admin rights?

I have a local copy of SQL Server 2000 installed with full admin
rights. I am working with a database on a remote server and I only have
permissions to that DB. I cannot setup
backup/synchro/replication/push/pull/etc due to not having the proper
permissions.
I have been using DTS to transfer the data to my local DB. But, is there
a good way to automate this process? Basically I just want to copy the
data locally everyday as a backup in case the remote server dies. Would
it be possible to create local job that transfers the data or am I stuck
doing this manually?

>|||So far it is working fine. But, I remember the reason I did not use the
schedule was because sometimes tables would be added and skipped by the
DTS since I am not copying all objects. I find that copying tables is
more reliable then objects/data. If only DTS could also add any new
table created. But, to make a long story short, this not seems to be the
best option considering it is the only option I have to transfer data.

Best way to move databse and tlog files from default location

I need to figure out the best way to move files with no data loss from the
default installed location, in my case ms crm database files. When you
install MS CRM it does not give you the option if pick an install location of
files (disk placement wise).

located. It probably created them on the default location. Relocating the
files will require some down time. During a time when there is no user
activity or Alter your database and set it to DBO only (use rollback
immediate if necessary). Detach the database. Copy the files. Attach the
database back. Most of this can be done with Enterprise manager by changing
the properties of the database and running tasks.

database modify file'. See BOL 'Moving Database Files', 'Planned Relocation
Procedure' section.
